The “survivor crop”, comes in different colors and can be used in million ways!
White sesame has a delicate flavour and
red seeds have a richer flavour and stronger aroma.
Through the years people have gotten really creative using sesame seeds in their daily life in numerous forms.
Cultivation of these tiny seeds has an ancient history dating back thousands of years ago, it’s an especially appealing crop for gardeners as it faces heat or drought issues during summer season months, for better growth performance it’s best to be cultivated in light loamy, when well-managed it can yield
1200 – 1500 kg/ha under irrigated and 800 – 1000 kg/ha under rain-fed conditions.
sesame crop matures in 100-135 days, and can grow to 3-5 feet or taller with white and sometimes pink
flowers, these flowers will eventually develop into dozens of elongated seed pods, When the pods turn brown and begin to open they are ready to be harvested. Mature pods are delicate and should be handled carefully.
The cultivation and harvesting of sesame crop at Africorp’s starts in October and continue to February, which enables the crop to be available in a good condition, and in large quantities
most of the year. Africorp’s is the only company in Sudan that has the “Organic and Fair Trade” certificates, by incorporating with local old farmers on “contract farming“.
